It’s Not Just About First Aid

CPR blogs

When you think about first aid training, you probably think about the basics:

  • Wound care
  • Heart attack
  • Choking
  • Resuscitation

But do you think about the training program and the qualifications required by law?

Not all courses are created equal.  Life’s Emergency Training is one of only 46 training agencies approved by WSIB – Workplace Safety & Insurance Board.  The Ministry of Labour sets out specific training requirements for first aid, and Life’s Emergency Training meets and exceeds those requirements.  The core mandate of the Minister of Labour is to promote safe, healthy, fair and inclusive work conditions and cooperative workplace relations.

In Ontario, the Ministry of Labour requires that all workplaces covered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act provide first aid training to their employees. The number of first aiders required depends on the number of employees per shift: 5 or fewer employeesAt least one employee must have an emergency first aid certificate; 6 or more employeesAt least one employee must have a standard first aid certificate.

When you think about first aid training, do you know where CPR fits in?

First aid training should always include CPR if a certificate of completion is being provided.  But you can also just be training on CPR and receive a certificate for completing the training.  A manual is provided in both instances.

So what else makes Life’s Emergency Training different?

Our culture!  Our goal is to make first aid less intimidating. No one should be nervous or afraid – it’s a new learning opportunity for everyone.  We like to be practical and teach people to look at scenarios in a proactive way so that when a situation occurs, the mindset is able to stay calm and confident to respond.  The course is serious but it’s important that we have fun and create a culture of comfort and easy learning.

All courses are available for on-line learning or in-class with manuals; with pricing the same for either option.

I’m passionate about first aid training.  Why?  Because when you step up to offer effective first aid, you can become the difference between someone’s worst day becoming their last day.
