Wexting, Texting … How About Resting?

Have we become a society obsessed with instant communication and news?  Are we fixated on selfies, sharing, and socializing … on our cell phones?

I’d like to think not, but the media tells me otherwise.  How many selfie photos have you seen of people leaning over the edge of cliff trying to get the best background?  How many times are children playing in the park while parents are staring at their phones?  How many times have you seen someone crossing a busy street talking or texting on their phones?  Do you really know what the law in Ontario says about hands-free devices?

We all know the consequences and yet, we still do it.  Just this year, there have been 54 drownings in Ontario so far in 2017 compared to 49 at this point in 2016, (Lifesaving Society.)

I would guess that 99% of the time, it’s not that important.  The #ItCanWait Campaign has some eye-opening scenes in this video.

And, finally, it’s important to know the hands-free laws wherever you may be driving to this summer.  Here’s a link to the Ontario laws to get you started.

Take a rest from your cell … it really can wait!
