Chocolate with Almonds Day – July 8, 2017

“There is little in the world as divine as chocolate, unless we consider the almond. What providence it is that these two things complement each other so readily.” ~ Anonymous

As divine as chocolate and almonds could be for some, they could be deadly for others. More than 2.5 million Canadians suffer from food allergies, or about 7.5 per cent of the population.

What would your guess be for the top food allergens?

If you said milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish and crustacean shellfish, you’re right! These are the top items with some adults and children allergic to more than one.

Most with allergies will carry an Epipen in order to be prepared should an allergic reaction occur. In some cases, the person having the allergic reaction won’t be able to self-dose.

Be prepared – learn more about severe allergic reactions, EpiPens and how to use them.
